Overview:

The role of a Product Development Engineer is crucial in the creation of innovative products while overseeing the lifecycle of current products and components. This position ensures that customer needs are met and that manufacturing processes are both efficient and cost-effective. The engineer will lead and support new product initiatives, providing essential engineering and technical expertise to the Operations team regarding product and process decisions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Gain comprehensive knowledge of product design to successfully create standard and customized products.
  • Collaborate with Applications Engineers to interpret customer specifications for specific product designs, ensuring critical dimensions are communicated effectively to suppliers.
  • Offer engineering assistance during Supplier Qualification processes.
  • Serve as a technical resource, conducting research in unfamiliar areas as needed.
  • Work alongside Manufacturing Engineers and product teams to facilitate the transition of purchased components to in-house production.
  • Respond promptly to customer inquiries and guide approved projects through established systems.
  • Ensure product manufacturability through collaboration with suppliers and manufacturing engineering teams.
  • Engage professionally with customers and suppliers to address design or quality concerns, which may involve travel to various locations.
  • Coordinate with Quality Assurance to establish critical inspection dimensions and best practices for quality control.
  • Conduct testing on new product designs to verify compliance with quality and regulatory standards.
  • Utilize simulation modeling as part of the design process.
  • Work closely with Lab and Manufacturing personnel to align new product designs with manufacturing requirements.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for assigned products, including drawings and revisions, while ensuring effective communication of updates.
  • Initiate and lead Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) related to product design modifications or quality issues.
  • Provide cost analysis support to accounting and Product Management, including Bill of Materials (BOM) and routing details.
  • Foster effective communication across the organization.
  • Participate in and lead project teams as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Uphold and promote the core values and behaviors of Fenner Precision Polymers.
Health & Safety Responsibilities:

• Adhere to EHS policies and procedures.
• Complete required EHS training.
• Support established operational protocols (ISO, Safety, Lean, etc.).
• Utilize required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) consistently.
• Take personal responsibility for maintaining a safe work environment by engaging in risk assessments and safety observations.
• Report any incidents or unsafe conditions immediately.
• Keep work areas organized and equipment in good working order.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (B.S.).
• A minimum of three to five years of experience in product design.
• Experience in product design and manufacturing processes.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks, with advanced knowledge of table-driven models and assemblies.
• Familiarity with Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.

Certifications:

Six Sigma Yellow or Green Belt preferred.
