Key Responsibilities

The role involves applying human resource theories, principles, and models to facilitate the administration of HR functions. You will utilize your knowledge, discretion, and independent judgment to interpret and apply human resource laws, regulations, and policies to address a variety of HR activities and challenges. Your work will often entail reviewing, evaluating, and consulting on specific actions to be taken, in collaboration with employees, supervisors, and management, while ensuring compliance with relevant HR laws and standards.

Key responsibilities include:

Offering guidance and recommendations to employees and management based on findings and established policies that affect the HR domain. Depending on the agency's size and operations, you may specialize in one or more HR functions or serve as a generalist across various HR functions. Ensuring adherence to state and federal HR laws, regulations, and policies. Analyzing inquiries and challenges; assessing their impact on the organization; evaluating alternatives and making informed recommendations. Communicating and supporting HR-related actions and recommendations. Reporting workplace risk management issues to leadership. Conducting research, gathering, analyzing, and evaluating data from multiple sources, and documenting findings in both narrative and statistical formats. Utilizing automated HR information systems to research and report on data; performing quality reviews of data as necessary. Undertaking special assignments and studies as required. Participating in interviews, meetings, and presentations. May involve calculating and resolving discrepancies related to payroll data.

Qualifications

Requirements for Human Resources Consultant I
Candidates must demonstrate competence in the following areas:

1. Candidates must meet at least one of the following criteria:

A Bachelor's degree or higher.

OR

One year of professional HR experience.

OR

Two years of experience in paraprofessional or administrative support roles within HR functions. A Statewide HR Certification or professional HR certification may substitute for one year of experience.
