Our team specializes in Anatomic Pathology, Cytopathology, Hematopathology, GI Pathology, Clinical Laboratory Consultations, and Laboratory Medical Directorships.

Role Overview: The Anatomic Pathology Assistant will work closely with pathologists to ensure accurate and efficient processing of specimens and contribute to the preparation of anatomical diagnoses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and performance of gross examination and dissection of surgical pathology specimens.
  • Under the indirect supervision of a pathologist, describe gross anatomic features, dissect surgical specimens, and prepare tissue sections for microscopic examination.
  • Ensure accurate specimen accessioning and labeling of surgical pathology specimens.
  • Obtain pertinent clinical records, case history, laboratory data, and relevant medical images.
  • Photograph specimens as needed.
  • Utilize voice-activated transcription systems to dictate gross descriptions.
  • Assist in the preparation and performance of post-mortem examinations, including obtaining proper authorization.
  • Perform or assist the pathologist in the prosection, including external examination, in situ organ inspection, evisceration, dissection, and data recording.
  • Procure biological specimens for analysis.
  • Arrange for still and/or video documentation of the body, organs, and other pertinent material.
  • Summarize the clinical history and assist the pathologist in preparing the preliminary anatomic diagnosis.
  • Select and prepare tissue sections for microscopic examination.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a health science or related field; Graduate of an accredited Pathologists' Assistant program.
  • Completed at least one year of clinical rotations in autopsy and surgical pathology grossing.
  • ASCP certified as a PA or eligible to sit for the ASCP certification exam.
