State College, Pennsylvania, United States Structural Integrity Associates Full time

We are looking for a dynamic and creative professional who thrives in collaborative settings to bring cutting-edge technologies from initial ideas to reality. Ideal candidates will possess a degree in engineering or a related technical field, along with proven experience in systems architecture, both analog and digital circuit design, software development, and programming. Familiarity with data acquisition systems, wireless communication, robotics integration, signal processing, machine learning, mechanical design, or product innovation is a plus.

This role involves active participation in SIA's Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) & Instrumentation division, focusing on the advancement of inspection and monitoring technologies that assist our field teams and clientele. Candidates should demonstrate strong technical leadership, creativity, and the ability to apply sound engineering principles to address complex challenges. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential.

While a general understanding of NDE techniques and technologies is beneficial, it is not mandatory. This may encompass ultrasonic testing, electromagnetic testing, sensor technologies, and phased array methodologies. Experience in developing technologies for industrial applications, particularly in power generation, will be advantageous.

The position will also require collaboration with SIA's field services and engineering teams, which may involve field applications and testing. Candidates must be open to travel for client interactions, meetings, and on-site evaluations (~15%).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development of internal instrumentation and monitoring technologies and software.
  • Acquire and maintain a comprehensive understanding of both conventional and advanced NDE and monitoring technologies.
  • Work alongside other engineers and NDE experts at SIA to enhance inspection tools and methodologies.
  • Act as both an internal and external advisor on instrumentation and monitoring solutions.
  • Provide training to internal and external stakeholders on the implementation of instrumentation and monitoring solutions.
  • Support the field-service team by offering field assistance as necessary for the deployment of instrumentation and monitoring solutions.
  • Represent SIA in client interactions in alignment with corporate values.
  • Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Demonstrate project management capabilities.
  • Organize, execute, and manage project assignments effectively.
  • Ensure the quality of services and products delivered.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
  • Travel requirements (~15%).
Required Skills/Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or equivalent with over 5 years of industry experience.
  • Advanced degrees are encouraged.
Desired Skills/Qualifications:
  • Four-year degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Over 5 years of experience in the development and application of electronic technologies, particularly in inspection and monitoring.
  • Experience in hardware/software development and integration.
  • Proficiency in programming and database management, preferably in C/C#, SQL/MySQL, Python, and/or LabVIEW.
  • PCB design and layout experience using Altium, Autodesk Eagle, or similar software.
  • Computer-aided design experience with SolidWorks, ProEngineer, or comparable software.
  • Basic knowledge of fabrication concepts, welding, materials, and processes.
  • Ability to create and interpret basic mechanical drawings.
  • Capability to read, understand, and/or prepare technical specifications and procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.
  • Professional demeanor and appearance.
  • Aptitude for managing multiple tasks and prioritizing projects.
  • Willingness to adapt to flexible and/or extended work hours and responsibilities.
