YMCA Southcoast is seeking a highly skilled Behavioral Support Specialist to join our team.
Job Summary:The Behavioral Support Specialist will work closely with our Clinician, counselors, nurse, and administration to develop and implement strategies to support children with diverse abilities and social-emotional needs. This role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with children, staff, and families.
Key Responsibilities:- Collaboration and Coordination: Work with the Director and Clinician to coordinate the Support Team, including co-leading Tuesday morning team meetings to review the Children Concern Logs.
- Individualized Support Plans: Assist the Clinician in developing and implementing individual support plans that recognize the uniqueness and interests of each child.
- Behavioral Interventions: Coordinate the actions or tasks identified in the Support Plan, which may include teaching and practicing emotion regulation and distress tolerance skills with campers, as well as implementing behavioral modification plans.
- Communication and Liaison: Support the Clinician in acting as a liaison to family and/or support systems or collaterals, facilitating communication and providing updates and problem-solving support as needed.
- Training and Guidance: Provide ongoing training and guidance to front-line counselors on how to minimize common behavior problems and work effectively with children who display diverse emotional and behavioral challenges.
- Monitoring and Support: Monitor children's groups for behavior trends and support Counselors and Clinician in facilitating special topic groups as needed.
- Culture and Documentation: Create a child culture of positive mental health, trauma-informed care, cultural humility, and behavior management, and maintain proper documentation.
- Supervision and Reporting: Engage in clinical supervision and fulfill the role of a Mandated Reporter.
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Education, Child Development, Social Work, Counseling, Special Education, Psychology, Child Psychology, Human Services, or a related field (preferred) or working towards a degree.
- Experience: Minimum of two years related work experience, including working with children with emotional and/or behavioral disturbances, with camp experience preferred.
- Skills: Excellent oral and written presentation skills, professionalism with staff, parents, and participants, and experience working with at-risk populations (helpful).
- Word, Excel, Power Point
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, walk, and be outdoors during the workday.
$19.00 per hour
