Site Leadership

As the most senior position in market DCs, the VP Operations is responsible for overall site management for standalone locations. This includes hard line reporting to RVP Operations and dotted line reporting into Area President shared with multiple other facilities (1-3 DCs per Area).

Planning and Directing

The Operations Director establishes long-term operations objectives aligned with business goals. They develop and execute a strategic plan for the operations department, integrating separate activities such as shipping, receiving, transportation, purchasing, and sales. This involves discussing accountabilities and interdependence with each function to achieve company goals.

The Operations Director participates in establishing overall Distribution Center business goals and seeks synergies and best practices to develop and implement new methods to improve productivity or customer service.

Profitable Operations

The Operations Director plans, organizes, directs, and controls the course of operations by integrating and coordinating operations functions and processes with business goals. They maintain profitable operations by controlling inventory, losses, accidents, and safety, and seek to develop and implement new methods to improve productivity or customer service.

Safety and Compliance

The Operations Director guides operations management in compliance with government and other regulatory agency guidelines and laws and Company programs. They implement programs to ensure overall safety, security, maintenance, and ergonomics for the operations functions.

Personnel and Company Policy

The Operations Director delegates responsibility to managers to accomplish productivity goals. They enforce Distribution Center/company policies on safety and employee discipline by following guidelines, communicate changes to the workforce, and oversee the work and performance of day warehouse associates.

The Operations Director creates performance improvement plans, administers discipline, and identifies training opportunities when appropriate.

Networking

The Operations Director participates in the Operations knowledge center, industry organizations, and other networking opportunities to bring in know-how and share best practices with other interested parties.

Union facilities only

The Operations Director negotiates terms of collective bargaining agreements and other duties assigned by manager.

Education/Training

A 4-year degree is preferred, or a High School Diploma (or GED) and equivalent experience.

Related Experience

10 years of operations experience, various job functions in distribution management, minimum of 5 years of management experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

D.O.T. regulations, Labor Relations, Selecting/interviewing/recruiting, Customer Service, budgeting and cost control, knowledge of OSHA, HAACP and other regulations, PC skills.
