Position Overview

The Obsolescence Engineer will oversee the management of component lifecycle processes, ensuring that the organization effectively navigates the challenges associated with obsolete parts. This role requires proficiency in predictive analysis and familiarity with the Silicon Expert Obsolescence Tool. The engineer will collaborate with engineering teams to assess obsolete components and propose suitable alternatives, while also engaging with supply chain and customer service teams to facilitate Lifetime Buy Orders (LBO) as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate obsolescence management strategies based on customer needs and reporting standards.
  • Analyze parts availability and recommend alternatives when necessary.
  • Generate and manage predictive obsolescence reports utilizing Silicon Expert and other internal tools.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to address component issues and suggest alternative solutions.
  • Conduct multi-functional meetings to discuss obsolescence matters and support design reviews.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of component engineering issues and provide clear reports on current challenges.
  • Utilize obsolescence-tracking tools to document issues from identification to resolution.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, combined with a minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical or electronic hardware. Experience in component engineering with a focus on obsolescence is essential. Proficiency in using the Silicon Expert Obsolescence Tool and a solid understanding of Material Declaration processes, including RoHS and REACH compliance, are required.

Preferred Skills

Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment are highly valued. The ideal candidate will possess good judgment, be capable of working independently or as part of a team, and have experience managing multi-functional teams in an international context. Familiarity with Configuration Management tools, particularly Windchill, is a plus.
