Job Description

The Urban League of Portland is seeking a highly skilled Communications Officer to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic communications plans to promote our mission and values.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement communications strategies to engage with internal and external stakeholders
  • Lead the development of organization-wide communications plans and materials
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement crisis communications plans
  • Manage and maintain the organization's social media presence
  • Develop and maintain relationships with media outlets and other external stakeholders
  • Provide communications support for special events and initiatives

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in communications or a related field
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful communications strategies
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with senior leadership and other stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a non-profit or government organization
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and their use in communications
  • Experience with crisis communications and emergency preparedness
  • Ability to work in a bilingual or multilingual environment
