KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, additional tasks may be assigned:
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities and serves as a role model for colleagues and community members, fostering youth development, promoting healthy lifestyles, and encouraging social responsibility in all job-related activities.
  • Acts as the primary contact and engages directly with all participants in the Men's Overflow Shelter Program.
  • Conducts daily operations including, but not limited to, managing phone communications, overseeing alarm systems, maintaining cleanliness of the facility, performing shift rounds, completing operational documentation, clerical tasks, and data entry on computers.
  • Monitors access to the facility by overseeing the entrance during designated arrival and departure times.
  • Conveys specific guest requirements to the Lead Overflow Team Member through Daily Shift Reports, Incident Reports, verbal communications during shift changes, and/or via electronic communication when necessary.
  • Responds to all emergencies involving guests and the facility in accordance with established emergency protocols.
  • Effectively collaborates with other social service organizations to facilitate referrals and provide guests with information about additional community services.
  • Assists in implementing the Overflow Shelter Policies and Procedures in alignment with Agency Operating Procedures (AOP), CARF, and Program Review & Certification Standards (CSB).
    • This may involve: interviewing and processing new guests for admission, conducting exit interviews for departing guests; ensuring accurate bed counts and lists; maintaining safety within the facility; coordinating resources between team members and guests;
  • Provides safety oversight throughout assigned shifts, including but not limited to: entry/exit procedures, bed counts, and emergency evacuation protocols.
  • Assists with the input of guest information into various systems and performs additional filing as required.
  • Participates in departmental meetings, training sessions, and special events as assigned.
Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma is mandatory; an associate's degree is preferred, along with 1+ years of experience working with low-income populations, or a comparable combination of education and experience.
  • Possesses crisis intervention skills to effectively address both urgent and non-urgent situations.
  • Ability to assist in all operational aspects of the YMCA Shelter/Overflow Program.
  • Capability to build rapport with individuals with diverse needs, including those with mental health challenges, substance use issues, and criminal backgrounds.
  • Strong multi-tasking abilities.
  • Training requirements:
    • Upon hire: American Red Cross First Aid and CPR certifications, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training.
    • Completion of Additional Shelter Services Training: customer service, community resources, cultural competency, child and elder abuse, sexual harassment, ethics, mental health/substance abuse, motivational interviewing, trauma-informed care, evacuation procedures, reporting, and confidentiality.
