Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Security Officer to join our team at the Columbus Region. As a Security Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our facilities, staff, and clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct and supervise Security Officers to investigate and respond to security incidents or concerns.
  • Perform perimeter checks of our facilities and area businesses to monitor security and safety.
  • Work with law enforcement and other local security teams to ensure the ultimate safety and security of our facilities and the neighborhood.
  • Procure trespass agreements and attend legal hearings for trespassed individuals.
  • Perform internal inspections of our facilities to ensure the security of the building and to check for any security concerns.
  • Monitor suspicious behavior and/or criminal activity and communicate with relevant parties.
  • Communicate any violations of shelter practices to Shelter Manager, Engagement Staff, FM Director, or Human Resources as appropriate.
  • Partner with Engagement Staff to de-escalate any incidents and/or threats of violence.
  • Track all occurrences, accidents, or other unusual activity in Security Log and create shift report of all incidents occurring on shift.
  • Proactively communicate any issues or concerns to on-coming shift Security Officer.
  • Develop the security schedule, special projects, and reports, etc.
  • Assist Volunteers with unloading and securing donations.
  • Maintain professional demeanor at all times with residents, donors, volunteers, and act as a role model for other staff.
  • Assist with training and mentoring of other security officers.
  • Conduct OC (Oleoresin Capsicum) Training for security staff.
  • Attend neighborhood and Downtown security meetings and internal safety meetings monthly and/or as needed.
  • Facilitate and attend security department meetings.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Previous experience in security role preferred.
  • Proven ability to problem-solve and exercise good judgment.
  • Acquire and maintain certification as OC (Oleoresin Capsicum) trainer.
  • Effective judgment and problem sensitivity skills in order to assess situations and manage to favorable outcomes.
  • Ability to understand and apply policies and procedures.
  • Able to communicate and work with a diverse group of individuals and in tense situations.
  • Ability to handle and respond to conflict situations using de-escalation techniques.
  • Able to communicate respectfully with employees and clients.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Experience with computers and MS Office applications.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license and insurance.
  • Ability to direct other Security personnel and staff.
  • Able to manage available resources effectively throughout a shift.
Working Conditions

Spends a portion of time outside in normal or adverse weather conditions.

Occasional exposure to adverse or conflict situations.

Requires travel between locations either on foot or by vehicle.

Busy shelter environment with regular contact with homeless individuals and others in crisis.
