Position Overview

Ares Management Corporation is in search of a skilled and motivated professional to collaborate closely with the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Lead for Private Equity and Secondaries. This role aims to further integrate ESG principles into the organizational culture, investment strategies, and operational frameworks.

Located in a dynamic environment, the Senior ESG Associate will engage with investment and portfolio management teams, along with various internal stakeholders, to execute a thorough business strategy for ESG and ensure uniform implementation across the organization.

Reporting Structure

Reports to: Principal, Private Equity and Secondaries ESG Lead

Key Responsibilities

The Senior ESG Associate will primarily assist the Ares Secondaries group in developing and executing programs aligned with the firm's ESG integration strategy. Ares Secondaries has a rich history of innovation in secondary markets across various alternative asset classes, including private equity, real estate, infrastructure, and credit.

This role will involve:

  • Collaborating with ESG Champions within the Secondaries team to enhance ESG integration strategies aimed at delivering measurable outcomes.
  • Mitigating significant ESG risks through the scalable application of ESG diligence, working with ESG champions to implement monitoring and engagement strategies that focus on risk mitigation and value creation.
  • Establishing a consistent and scalable methodology for ESG data collection, validation, and reporting for both internal and external stakeholders, partnering with the Investor Relations team to develop ESG content for reporting.
  • Assisting with LP ESG due diligence, addressing inquiries regarding the firm’s ESG practices, policies, and case studies.
  • Contributing to thought leadership initiatives related to ESG in secondary markets.
  • Supporting selected ESG initiatives within the Private Equity sector, including data collection and engagement with portfolio companies.
  • Assisting the broader ESG team with project management and the development of internal and external deliverables.

Qualifications

Education: A Bachelor’s degree is required; an MBA or equivalent in finance, economics, or environmental management is strongly preferred.

Experience: The ideal candidate will possess a strong desire to enhance Ares' existing ESG processes, demonstrating deep knowledge of ESG integration and data management.

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in ESG-related business practices, investments, and sustainability, preferably within the financial services sector.
  • Strong operational orientation in private markets.
  • Experience in identifying, tracking, and reporting on ESG data management and KPIs, including developing systematic processes for consistency and accuracy.
  • General knowledge of financial sector levers for sustainability initiatives.
  • Technical proficiency in data analysis to support the screening of target acquisitions.
  • Familiarity with ESG industry initiatives and reporting frameworks, including PRI, TCFD, SFDR, and EU Taxonomy.

Compensation and Benefits

The anticipated base salary range for this position is between $150,000 and $180,000. Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus.
