The Investment Research Associate will play a crucial role in conducting operational due diligence assessments for various investment vehicles, including hedge funds, private equity, and real estate funds. This position entails coordinating and participating in due diligence meetings across a spectrum of strategies such as equity long/short, statistical, systematic, and macro, as well as private equity structures like co-investments and secondary funds, primarily focusing on the Americas region.
The Associate will report directly to the Global Head of Fund Manager Research and will engage in team initiatives and activities aimed at enhancing the team's presence in the Americas. Building and maintaining strong relationships with senior members of the alternative asset management sector, asset management, and the global private bank will be essential. The role involves reviewing documentation and conducting on-site interviews with executives from hedge funds, private equity, and real estate funds to assess business and operational risks while evaluating the overall quality of systems, controls, infrastructure, and personnel.
Key Responsibilities
The Associate will be tasked with writing and reviewing comprehensive reports that provide detailed insights and analyses regarding the operational landscape of hedge funds, private equity, and real estate funds. Continuous monitoring of approximately 500 investments on the platform will be required. Additionally, the Associate will conduct ESG evaluations and compile scorecards and assessment reports for the investments. The role includes researching foreign markets to understand regulatory and tax implications related to trading and establishing a local presence.
Involvement in special projects will also be part of the role, which may include system implementations, enhancements to proprietary systems, compliance frameworks for investments, and regulatory initiatives. Participation in client meetings and presentations at oversight forums within the organization will be expected. A solid understanding of operations within the asset management, real estate, and private equity sectors is necessary, along with strong written and verbal communication skills.
Qualifications
To excel in this role, candidates should possess:
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in operational due diligence or auditing within an audit firm focused on alternative investment products or within the operations/audit departments of an asset management firm.
- An undergraduate degree in accounting or finance, along with a Chartered Accountant qualification, CPA license, or CFA designation.
- Familiarity with industry standards and best practices in the asset management sector, particularly regarding hedge funds and private markets.
- Knowledge of pooled investment products and the ability to integrate an ESG framework into the research process.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Bloomberg, Allocator, and alternative investment databases.
- A proactive approach, demonstrating initiative and effective time management skills.
