Summary:
The Corporate Tax Specialist utilizes accounting principles to prepare federal and state corporate tax returns. They adjust and scrutinize financial statements and prepare tax workpapers for tax compliance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Compiles and analyzes financial data to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions.
  • Gathers necessary data and prepares federal, state, and local reports and tax returns.
  • Continuously refines knowledge to calculate depreciation and maintain fixed asset schedules throughout the year and at year-end.
  • Distributes expenditures, encumbrances, receipts, and receivables according to established schedules.
  • Conducts research on tax matters and provides opinions based on written codes and regulations, participating in tax planning to identify potential risks.
  • Performs statistical analyses to identify trends, estimates, and significant changes, producing narrative reports to explain findings.
  • Oversees and tracks all company taxes, including Federal Corporate, State Corporate, Sales, Tangible, Premium, Excise, and all other applicable taxes.
  • Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, preparing balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other reports to summarize and interpret the company's financial position for management.
  • Reads legal and closing documents to report them accurately for tax purposes.
  • Monitors compliance with tax codes and company procedures.
  • Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.
  • Installs, modifies, documents, and coordinates the implementation of accounting systems and control procedures.
  • Designs and maintains pro formas for current and proposed contracts to assess pricing and profitability.
  • Understands amortization and goodwill as they relate to tax and financial statements.
  • Prepares accounting tax workpapers and learns tax software to assist with the completion of tax returns.

Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience.
  • Corporate tax experience.
  • Experience with Ultra-Tax Software is preferred.
  • Familiarity with double-entry accounting, including Balance Sheets and P&L statements, journal entries, and financial statements.

Education and Experience:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business is strongly preferred.

Computer Skills:
Proficiency in software programs such as MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook. Experience with QuickBooks and other tax programs is a plus.

Environmental Factors/Physical Demands:
Work is performed in an office environment. The employee is regularly required to maintain active communication with customers and employees, access, input, and retrieve information from the computer system, and enter alpha-numeric data while listening on the telephone. May involve repetitive motion such as typing and data entry, and may require bending, reaching, kneeling, stooping, and lifting up to thirty (30) pounds.
