Department Overview:
The Quantum Information Science, Optics, and Imaging Department is on the lookout for a driven and skilled postdoctoral researcher to join our Quantum Moonshot Project team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in quantum optics and cryogenic optical measurements of solid-state single photon sources and quantum memories. In this role, you will leverage your technical background in quantum physics to innovate and evaluate novel spin-photon interfaces, chip-based quantum photonic circuits, and quantum optical measurement systems. You will have the chance to collaborate closely with our partners, integrating the generation, control, and measurement of quantum bits to advance the development of a photonic universal quantum computer. This position provides a unique opportunity to engage in a diverse array of challenges in quantum science and technology, influence research trajectories, and work alongside internal and external teams with a wide range of expertise to publish your findings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Transform innovative research concepts into experimental designs and prototypes in the field of quantum information science (QIS).
- Publish and present research outcomes in academic journals and at conferences.
- Collaborate with team members to develop cutting-edge photonics-based quantum technologies.
- Assist in the planning, development, and enhancement of laboratory capabilities.
- Engage with external partners on QIS research initiatives.
Basic Qualifications:
- Possession of (or imminent completion of) a Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Selected candidates will undergo a government security investigation and must meet eligibility criteria for access to classified information.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with fiber and free-space optical measurements, solid-state spins, micro and nano-fabrication, cryogenic measurements, and single photon counting.
- Background in engineering, particularly in the design and construction of quantum photonic systems, microwave/RF engineering, and chip-scale testing.
- Proficiency in software and programming, including knowledge of Python, Matlab, and numerical simulation software suites (e.g., COMSOL Multiphysics, Lumerical, Zemax).
- Aptitude for building strong collaborative relationships with colleagues.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
Work Location:
This position requires on-site work in the quantum moonshot laboratory.
