Job Summary

The Quality Assurance Senior Specialist – Life Underwriting is a critical role within our underwriting department, responsible for ensuring the accuracy and compliance of underwriting decisions and processes. This position involves conducting thorough audits of underwriting files, identifying trends and areas for improvement, and providing detailed feedback and recommendations to underwriters and management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform regular audits of life underwriting cases to assess accuracy and compliance with NLG's philosophy, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Review underwriter decisions, documentation, and risk assessments to ensure adherence to established guidelines.
  • Identify trends, discrepancies, and deviations from underwriting guidelines and provide solutions and recommendations.
  • Work closely with leadership to provide guidance and clarification on best practices.
  • Develop action plans to correct identified issues and monitor the implementation of recommended changes.
  • Collaborate with the training team to develop educational materials and sessions based on audit findings, aimed at improving underwriting quality and consistency.
  • Participate in initiatives to enhance underwriting processes, reduce error rates, and improve overall quality.
  • Provide insights and recommendations for process improvements based on audit findings and industry best practices.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in underwriting.
  • Encourage a culture of continuous learning and development within the team and foster an environment that supports knowledge sharing and professional growth.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 10 years of life underwriting experience, preferably with designations such as FALU, FLMI, or other course work within ALU, LOMA, or similar industry organizations.
  • Experience in signing-off on large cases exceeding five million in face amount.
  • Previous experience with accelerated and rules engine underwriting.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated skill in developing risk management and underwriting programs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in underwriting quality assurance.
