Senior Underwriting Quality Assurance Specialist

Job Summary
The Senior Underwriting Quality Assurance Specialist will be responsible for evaluating and enhancing the quality of underwriting decisions and processes within National Life Group's underwriting department. This role involves conducting thorough audits of underwriting files to ensure compliance with the company's philosophy, guidelines, regulatory standards, and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform regular audits of life underwriting cases to assess accuracy and compliance with company guidelines and regulatory requirements
- Review underwriter decisions, documentation, and risk assessments to ensure adherence to established guidelines
- Identify trends, discrepancies, and deviations from underwriting guidelines and provide solutions and recommendations
- Work closely with leadership to provide guidance and clarification on best practices
- Develop action plans to correct identified issues and monitor the implementation of recommended changes
- Collaborate with the training team to develop educational materials and sessions based on audit findings to improve underwriting quality and consistency
- Participate in initiatives to enhance underwriting processes, reduce error rates, and improve overall quality
- Provide insights and recommendations for process improvements based on audit findings and industry best practices
- Serve as a subject matter expert in underwriting
- Encourage a culture of continuous learning and development within the team and foster an environment that supports knowledge sharing and professional growth
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
- 10 years of life underwriting experience; preferred background includes designations such as FALU, FLMI, or other coursework within ALU, LOMA, or similar industry organizations
- Experience in signing-off on large cases exceeding five million in face amount
- Previous experience with accelerated and rules engine underwriting
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Demonstrated skill in developing risk management and underwriting programs

- Experience in underwriting quality assurance
