Objective:

The General Superintendent plays a crucial role in overseeing the planning, management, and documentation of large-scale civil construction projects, including roadways, drainage systems, utility installations, and site development. This position demands effective leadership and managerial support to ensure operational success and safety across all project phases.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage safety protocols, project scheduling, workforce allocation, and cost management while ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Supervise and coordinate the efforts of field Foremen involved in highway construction activities.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager to plan, schedule, and monitor procurement and construction tasks.
  • Provide guidance to project staff regarding professional standards, work quality, performance metrics, and accountability.
  • Review project drawings, specifications, and subcontractor submissions for compliance and accuracy.
  • Oversee project budgets, manage expenditures, and work closely with the Project Manager for financial oversight.
  • Coordinate with site foremen to resolve scheduling conflicts and ensure seamless collaboration among crews and subcontractors.
  • Communicate safety policies and ensure compliance, while identifying training needs for crew safety.
  • Evaluate the skills and competencies of foremen and crew members to ensure project effectiveness.
  • Identify issues proactively and implement effective solutions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Superintendent in highway construction.
  • At least 7 years of hands-on experience in highway construction, with a focus on mass earth movement, large-scale excavation, grading, and utility construction.
  • Strong understanding of project scope and objectives, including the ability to read and interpret construction plans.
  • Proficient in interpreting project specifications and scheduling/planning highway construction activities.
  • Prior experience operating construction equipment such as excavators, dozers, and backhoes is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
