Objective:
The General Superintendent plays a crucial role in overseeing planning, management, and documentation for substantial civil construction projects, including roadways, drainage systems, utilities, and site development. This position demands strong leadership and managerial support to guarantee safety and operational efficiency. The Superintendent is accountable for the safety of Foremen and their teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership while ensuring safety, scheduling, workforce planning, and cost management; enforce adherence to all company policies and procedures.
- Directly oversee and coordinate the activities of field Foremen in highway construction projects.
- Plan, schedule, coordinate, and monitor procurement and construction activities in collaboration with the Project Manager.
- Guide project personnel on professional standards, work quality, performance, and accountability.
- Review project drawings, specifications, and subcontractor submissions.
- Manage project budgets and authorize expenditures in partnership with the Project Manager.
- Collaborate closely with site foremen to identify and resolve scheduling conflicts and deficiencies among crews and subcontractors, ensuring smooth coordination of construction activities.
- Communicate safety policies and procedures to guarantee compliance in all safety aspects, while identifying crew safety training needs.
- Evaluate the competency and capability of foremen and crew members on the project.
- Identify and address issues or problems, providing effective solutions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Superintendent in highway construction.
- Over 7 years of hands-on experience in highway construction, with a focus on mass earth movement, large excavations, grading operations, and utility construction.
- Familiarity with project construction scope and objectives, including the ability to read and interpret plans.
- Strong experience in interpreting drawings and project specifications, as well as scheduling and planning highway construction work.
- Previous experience operating construction equipment such as excavators, dozers, and backhoes is highly preferred.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience in a team-oriented environment.
