Job Summary

The Clinical Technician EMT provides direct patient care under the direction of a nurse and performs various tasks necessary for unit operations. This role requires strong communication and teamwork skills, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Deliver patient care under the direction of a licensed nurse, including performing vital signs, administering medications, and providing wound care.
  • Manage a multiple patient care assignment based on unit acuity and staffing levels, prioritizing tasks and delegating responsibilities as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members, responding to patient requests and reporting pertinent clinical findings.
  • Perform emergency measures, including CPR, when indicated, and maintain annual competency with patient-specific procedures.
  • Enter timely and accurate documentation into the electronic medical record, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Collect, label, and deliver urine, blood, sputum, and stool specimens to the lab, utilizing Universal Precautions.
  • Apply orthopedic splints under the direction of a Registered Nurse/Physician/Provider and document in the electronic medical record.
  • Assist with the application of simple dressings, utilizing aseptic technique, and accurately perform glucometer finger sticks and POCT.
  • Transport patients to other areas of the hospital as needed, acting as a patient sitter when one-to-one observation is required.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications
  • Minimum of High School diploma or GED required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  • Valid Licensure as an EMT in the State of Florida with acute care experience required.
  • Basic computer knowledge: ability to operate a PC, create/save/print documents, input data.
