Patient Care Technician Med Surg

As a Patient Care Technician at Trinity Health Livonia Hospital, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care. Under the direction of a registered nurse, you will assist with direct patient care, considering the patient's age-specific, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs. You will demonstrate unit/area-designated competencies and assist in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe, and conducive to patient/family well-being.
Responsibilities:
Perform nursing care as delegated by the RN, including vital signs, pain score, and temperature.
Assist patients with coughing, deep breathing, and use of incentive spirometer.
Apply warm and cold therapies, including ice packs and cooling blankets.
Provide care for restrained patients, including general care and ongoing monitoring.
Assist with feeding and menu selection, and distribute/collect nourishments and orders late trays.
Answer call lights and demonstrate sterile or aseptic technique as appropriate.
Collect and send specimens, including blood and blood cultures, and remove peripheral IV catheters.
Competency-based point-of-care testing, such as blood glucose, and record patient information and required data in appropriate areas.
Requirements:
High school diploma or GED.
Preferred minimum of one year of previous direct care experience or successful completion of CENA, PCT, MA, or EMT course.
Student nurses must have completed their nursing fundamentals class of a BSN program.
