About This Role

Oceans Behavioral Hospital Amarillo is dedicated to providing exceptional care to adults and seniors with mental health issues. Our team of professionals utilizes innovative therapies to promote long-term wellness.

The Mental Health Technician plays a vital role in maintaining a therapeutic environment by performing routine tasks and supporting patient care activities under the direction of licensed nursing staff.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Uphold professional standards, adhere to policies and procedures, and comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
  2. Effectively apply supportive behavior when assisting with patient control and employ de-escalation techniques as needed.
  3. Accurately inventory patient belongings and secure contraband when necessary, and complete unit safety checks.
  4. Adhere to standard/universal precautions and infection control policies and participate in required in-services.
  5. Implement patient care activities under the direction of licensed nursing personnel, including vital signs, weights, ADL, intake and output documentation, nutritional monitoring, and communication of findings to the nurse.
  6. Assist patients with daily tasks, laundry, meals, and bathroom functions, and provide support with mobility needs.
  7. Individualize patient care activities to address age-specific, disability, and cultural sensitivity needs.
  8. Communicate and document patient observations and findings effectively in the patient record, and accurately document significant occurrences, behavior, vital signs, nutrition intake, and patient observation findings.
  9. Communicate outcomes of assigned tasks to nursing staff in a timely manner and communicate follow-up on patient care responsibilities, incomplete assignments, ongoing activities, and current patient needs.
