Department: Program
Reports To: Experience Manager


General Overview:

This role involves assisting in various aspects of kitchen operations and meal preparation. The position is essential for ensuring a smooth dining experience for participants in our environmental education programs.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Support all facets of kitchen operations, including food packing, preparation, serving, cooking, cleaning, and dishwashing as required.
  2. Assist in the opening and closing procedures of the kitchen.
  3. Contribute to menu planning and procurement as necessary.
  4. Ensure the provision of nutritious and balanced meals for participants and staff as directed.
  5. Maintain the kitchen, dining areas, and facilities in an organized and efficient manner.
  6. Uphold cleanliness standards in the kitchen at all times.
  7. Promptly report any accidents or health issues.
  8. Adhere to and enforce all safety and sanitation protocols, including cleaning schedules and safety guidelines for all facilities.
  9. Exhibit leadership by guiding others to follow established safety and cleaning procedures.
  10. Comply with health and safety regulations as mandated by local authorities.
  11. Foster a professional and courteous atmosphere for coworkers, participants, volunteers, and parents.
  12. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when dealing with sensitive information.
  13. Follow all organizational policies and procedures.
  14. Meet the standards set by relevant accreditation bodies and local agencies.

Qualifications and Skills:

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience Required:

  • Must be at least 18 years old or 17 with a high school diploma.
  • Prior experience in kitchen or food service is advantageous.

Skills Required:

  • Effective time management and multitasking abilities.
  • Strong communication skills to keep supervisors informed of activities and issues.
  • Ability to work within established guidelines and recognize the responsibilities of the role.
  • Understanding and adherence to safety protocols and cleaning schedules.
  • Ability to instruct and correct behaviors that may pose safety risks.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds and meet the demands of a camp environment.
  • Commitment to ensuring the health and safety of participants and staff.
  • Ability to engage positively with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
  • Exhibit a flexible, responsible, patient, and enthusiastic attitude.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license and have access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Ability to obtain a Food Handlers Permit.
