About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Application Architect to join our team at Truist. As a key member of our technology organization, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining complex application architectures that meet the needs of our business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee the implementation of application architecture, ensuring scalability, performance, and security in support of short- and long-term business plans.
  • Implement and enforce security best practices in application design, including data encryption, secure coding standards, and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Participate in the development of company business system architecture plans and review cost and feasibility of system requests while ensuring the plan supports the strategic needs of the company.
  • Design and manage the integration of various systems and services, ensuring seamless operation and communication between them.
  • Work closely with development teams, product managers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into secure, scalable, and efficient application designs.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in systems architecture and security, and advocate for their adoption.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive architectural documentation, including design specifications, security protocols, and operational guidelines.
  • Research and maintain knowledge in emerging technologies and possible application to the business. Viewed as a technical expert and critical technical resource.
  • Typically lead complex projects and participate in larger initiatives. Solve complex technical and operational problems.
  • Act as a resource for teammates with less experience. May oversee workflow and provide coaching and training for a small team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and eight years of experience in development or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • In-depth knowledge in information systems and ability to identify, apply, and implement best practices.
  • Understanding of multiple disciplines/processes related to the position.
  • Experience applying and utilizing enterprise architecture standards.
  • Understanding of key business processes and competitive strategies related to the IT function.
  • Ability to plan and manage projects.
  • Ability to solve complex problems by applying best practices.
  • Ability to provide direction and mentor less experienced teammates.
  • Advanced communications skills, including ability to interpret and convey complex, difficult, or sensitive information.
  • In an Agile environment: Knowledge of Agile development and release practices. Experience supporting a team with application architecture in an Agile environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and ten years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Knowledge of one or more Microsoft technologies such as:.NET (e.g., VB.Net, C#, or C++, ASP.Net) and database platforms such as SQL Server and proficiency in PL/SQL.
  • Scripting experience strongly preferred (PowerShell, Python, etc.)
  • Experience designing, implementing, and consuming REST and SOAP services.
  • Strong understanding of security controls and compliance (NIST, SOC2, NYDFS)
  • Solid working knowledge of UML and design tools.
  • Banking or financial services experience.
  • One or more relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, TOGAF, or AWS Certified Solutions Architect are a plus.

Working Conditions

  • Able to access and interpret client information received from the computer and able to hear and speak with individuals in person and on the phone.
  • Able to work standard office equipment, including PC keyboard and mouse, copy/fax machines, and printers.
  • Able to work all hours scheduled, including overtime as directed by manager/supervisor and required by business need.
  • Minimal and up to 10% travel.
