About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Project Architect to join our team at McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture. As a key member of our Healthcare team, you will be responsible for leading complex projects from conception to completion, ensuring that they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Leadership: Provide high-level production supervision and guidance to project teams, ensuring that projects are delivered efficiently and effectively.
  • Project Management: Assist the Project Manager with all aspects of multiple small to large-scale projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Client Liaison: Serve as the primary client liaison, ensuring that client needs are met and that projects are delivered to their satisfaction.
  • Project Coordination: Coordinate all project efforts, administrative and technical, to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective execution of assigned projects.
  • Communication: Actively manage client communications, project documentation, and office administrative tasks.
  • Estimating and Proposals: Estimate fees, determine scope of work, and prepare proposals for new projects.
  • Contract Administration: Supervise the preparation and check the accuracy of contract documents.
  • Code Compliance: Incorporate applicable codes, construction techniques, and sequences in various projects, including all aspects of cross-disciplinary coordination.
  • Site Observations: Supervise and/or perform site observations, such as recording and reporting of existing conditions and construction progress.
  • Problem-Solving: Handle problems and questions as they occur during construction, maintaining responsibility for project cost control.
  • External Communications: Handle external communications, such as making telephone calls and preparing correspondence to clients, officials, and contractors as required by various projects.
  • Reporting: Write reports, such as feasibility studies, condition reports, and recommendations.
  • Building Code Reviews: Supervise and perform building code reviews and prepare applications.
  • Design Decisions: Responsible for major design decisions, involving spatial, aesthetic elements, and detailing of materials.
  • Project Documentation: Document the progression of a routine project through correspondence, memos, etc. Follow routine projects through approvals and construction. Initiate contact with client and town officials.
  • Professional Judgment: Exercise professional judgment in areas of contractual liability.
  • Presentation: Make public presentations.
  • Thought Leadership: Be a thought leader.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor of Architecture or equivalent.
  • Licensure: Registered as a licensed architect.
  • Experience: 8-12 years of experience as an architect.
  • Leadership Experience: Experience leading a project team.
  • Estimating and Budgeting: Knowledge of estimating project needs and capable of translating them into budget hours/costs.
  • Budget Management: Ability to monitor the budget of a task or series of tasks and make necessary adjustments to keep on budget.
  • Team Leadership: Capable of providing leadership to a team that is performing a sequence of tasks.
  • Motivation: Ability to instill motivation to in the team to meet projected milestones and capable of adjusting the procedures to keep the progress on target.
  • Software Skills: Proficiency with Revit, Enscape, and Bluebeam.
  • Office Suite: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Adobe Creative Suite: Familiarity with Adobe Creative suite and Newforma software.
  • Building Technology: Excellent grasp of building technology fundamentals.
  • Codes and Regulations: Thorough knowledge of relevant codes, operations, processes, and trends.
  • Time Management: Excellent time management skills.
  • Prioritization: Ability to effectively and confidently prioritize and execute tasks with many competing priorities.
  • Adaptability: Ability to absorb new ideas and concepts quickly.
  • Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail.
  • Organizational Skills: Exceptional organizational and follow-through skills.
  • Self-Motivation: Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Direction: Ability to provide clear direction.
  • Cultural Awareness: Demonstrated cultural awareness and sensitivity.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master of Architecture.
  • Newforma Experience: Experience with Newforma Project Center and/or Newforma Project Analyzer.
  • Microsoft Project: Experience with Microsoft Project.
  • Additional Certifications: Additional relevant certifications indicating additional expertise such as for construction administration, interior design, LEED/Green Globes sustainability.
