Job Overview

Position Title: Chief Financial Officer

Role Summary: The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Philadelphia Yearly Meeting (PYM) oversees all financial activities, including the management of operating, restricted, and capital budgets, financial forecasting and analysis, risk assessment, and adherence to regulatory standards. With a dedicated team of 25 employees and a comprehensive budget of $4.5 million, the CFO plays a pivotal role in ensuring the organization's financial integrity.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic Financial Planning: Conducts thorough analysis and forecasting to secure PYM's long-term financial viability. Collaborates with the General Secretary and ASMHPT to prepare and manage budgets, ensuring effective stewardship through the approval process while adapting to financial changes.
  2. Operational Financial Management: Establishes and enforces best practices to enhance the organization's financial operations.
  3. Financial Reporting: Guarantees timely dissemination of essential financial data to staff, governance bodies, and community stakeholders. Develops and maintains internal controls for financial statement preparation in compliance with US GAAP.
  4. Liquidity and Investment Oversight: Implements strategies to maintain operational liquidity and manage restricted funds to support granting activities and PYM initiatives. Monitors investment portfolios where PYM acts as trustee.
  5. Risk Management and Compliance: Ensures adherence to nonprofit regulations and aligns restricted fund usage with donor intentions.
  6. Facility Management: Supervises PYM-owned properties, ensuring optimal management and resource allocation.
  7. Additional Duties: Performs other responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Understanding of Quaker principles and a commitment to deepening this knowledge.
  • At least five years of executive-level experience in finance, accounting, or nonprofit management.
  • Proficient in nonprofit accounting standards and regulations.
  • Experience with accounting software.
  • Direct supervisory experience.
  • Proven ability to manage diverse teams and complex projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Extensive experience in articulating complex financial matters to various stakeholders.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications.

Work Environment: PYM operates from a sustainable, centrally located office in Philadelphia, currently following a hybrid work model. The organization fosters a collegial atmosphere, surrounded by a variety of nonprofit entities.
