Overview

This position is for an Analytical Chemist specializing in Forensic Toxicology, reporting directly to the Lab Manager I. The role encompasses a variety of responsibilities at both the II and III levels, focusing on the analysis of intricate biological samples related to various cases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough analyses of complex biological matrices for diverse cases, including postmortem examinations and driving under the influence (DUI) incidents.
  • Process and review all associated batch documentation.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot sophisticated analytical instruments.
  • Prepare necessary standards and reagents for testing.
  • Provide expert testimony in legal proceedings.

Selective Requirements

Candidates must meet the following selective requirements to qualify for this position:
  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Forensic Science, or a related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

While not mandatory, the following qualifications are preferred:
  • A minimum of six months of experience in the field of toxicology.

Essential Functions

The essential functions of this role are foundational and apply to all positions within this classification. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties associated with any one position.

  • Prepare samples for analytical testing, interpret instrument outputs, and document test results accurately.
  • Utilize advanced analytical chemistry techniques and cutting-edge instrumentation to collect data from samples.
  • Analyze laboratory results to ascertain the presence and concentration of toxins, pathogens, and other chemical constituents.
  • Compile comprehensive reports that detail sample identification, testing methodologies, and findings from analyses.

Job Requirements for Analytical Chemist II

Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:

  • Six months of experience in generating and interpreting chemical test data through quantitative and/or qualitative statistical analysis.
  • Six months of experience in selecting appropriate laboratory testing methods and procedures.
  • Six months of experience in physical, organic, inorganic, or analytical chemistry.
  • Six months of experience in the operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
  • Six months of experience in technical report writing.

Job Requirements for Analytical Chemist III

Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:

  • Three years of experience in generating and interpreting chemical test data through quantitative and/or qualitative statistical analysis.
  • Three years of experience in selecting and modifying laboratory testing methods and procedures.
  • Six months of experience in conducting data reviews to ensure accuracy in numerical input, calculations, and interpretations.
  • Three years of experience in physical, organic, inorganic, or analytical chemistry.
  • Three years of experience in the operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
  • Six months of experience in technical report writing.
