Sustainability Compliance Engineer

The Sustainability Compliance Engineer is responsible for providing expertise in water, waste, and air regulatory frameworks, ensuring compliance through permitting, program development, and effective communication with regulatory agencies for the Manufacturing Plant.

This role serves as a key advocate for environmental compliance initiatives and will actively collaborate with all levels of the workforce within Operations, Maintenance, and Project teams to foster continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

1. Monitor and analyze federal, state, and local regulations alongside corporate standards to assess their relevance to the site.

2. Develop and document comprehensive programs and implement systematic processes to guarantee that all activities are compliant with applicable regulations.

3. Secure necessary permits from relevant agencies for site operations.


4. Act as the Site Subject Matter Expert (SME) for various regulatory frameworks including HON, LDAR, Boiler MACT, RICE MACT, NPDES, SWPPP, Clean Water Act, RCRA, TSCA, ODS, FIFRA, Soil Remediation, Land Disturbance, and SARA 311/312, which includes the preparation and submission of related regulatory reports.

5. Evaluate site performance against permit stipulations and identify areas for ongoing enhancement.

6. Provide coaching, training, and consultation to site personnel regarding their responsibilities in maintaining regulatory compliance.

7. Engage with peer environmental engineers and corporate specialists to cultivate a unified interpretation of regulatory obligations.


8. Maintain the strong relationships established with regulatory bodies by demonstrating transparency and a commitment to environmental stewardship.


Qualifications:
Degree in Engineering.

Essential Experience and Skills:

- Experience in an environmental role within a petrochemical or refining manufacturing environment, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience in obtaining or renewing operational permits (e.g., RCRA, NPDES, Title V).

- Direct experience interfacing with state or federal regulatory agencies.

- Proven ability to comprehend and navigate complex regulatory requirements.

- Proactive in seeking best practices and applying them to current responsibilities.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

- Experience leading or participating in incident investigations.

- Knowledge of ISO 14001 program design and compliance.
