The Salvation Army, a globally recognized non-profit organization, is seeking a Senior Financial Officer for its operations.

About this opportunity:

This role involves overseeing and engaging in the execution of computerized double-entry bookkeeping tasks, necessitating a foundational understanding of fund accounting principles to accurately document and sustain detailed fiscal records and financial data. The position applies essential bookkeeping expertise to diverse tasks such as posting, verifying entries, issuing payments, reconciling accounts, and generating financial reports for designated accounts. The Senior Financial Officer is responsible for preparing and maintaining financial records with precision and timeliness, ensuring the integrity, security, and accountability of financial accounts.

Additionally, this role includes assisting accounting personnel by addressing inquiries and clarifying established policies and procedures. The officer will also manage HR information and maintain the filing system for human resources documents, track attendance balances, and oversee leave requests. Responsibilities extend to auditing and performing data entry in the timekeeping system, assisting with health insurance enrollment/termination, background check submissions, and E-Verify entries, as well as preparing comprehensive reports and spreadsheets.

The Senior Financial Officer will lead in executing computerized double-entry bookkeeping tasks, providing instruction and training to staff as needed. Responsibilities include posting and maintaining various ledgers, entering income, expenses, and balance sheet data into financial systems, and ensuring accuracy and completeness of entries. The officer will prepare journal entries, balance accounts, and generate reports.

Key responsibilities also include managing accounts payable and receivable ledgers, processing invoices, matching them with appropriate documentation, and entering data into the accounts payable system. The officer will run weekly reports to identify due bills, record cash payments, and manage disbursements.

Furthermore, the role entails receiving, recording, and depositing cash receipts, preparing daily reports of cash transactions, and making necessary adjustments. The officer will classify receipts and disbursements according to established codes, maintain billing and posting of charges, and prepare summary reports.

The Senior Financial Officer will also prepare remittance forms for various obligations, balance bank reconciliations, and generate financial documentation and technical reports. Maintaining checking accounts through daily deposits and reconciliations is also a critical function of this role.

What we are looking for in you:

A Bachelor's degree in accounting, bookkeeping, business, or a related field, along with two years of progressively complex bookkeeping experience utilizing a computerized accounting system (Great Plains) and some exposure to double-entry fund accounting, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Licenses and Certifications:

Approved background check required. A valid State Driver license may be necessary.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to meet attendance requirements, read, write, and communicate effectively in English. Proficiency in data entry and document organization is essential. The role requires the ability to perform mathematical computations accurately and operate general office equipment. The work environment is typical of an office setting with minimal physical discomforts.
