Riddle Village, a premier lifecare retirement community, is in search of a dedicated Full-time Recreational Activities Assistant to enhance our wellness team.

About the Role:

The primary objective of the Recreational Activities Assistant role is to support the Activities Supervisor and Personal Care Administrator in the planning, organization, development, and management of the department's overall operations. This will be executed in compliance with all relevant guidelines and regulations, as directed by management, to ensure a continuous program of activities that caters to the interests and the physical, mental, and psychosocial needs of each resident.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning, development, organization, implementation, evaluation, and direction of activity programs at Riddle Village, collaborating with other departments as necessary.
  • Stay informed about current federal and state regulations, as well as professional standards, and provide recommendations for policy and procedure modifications to the Director of Wellness Services and/or Administrator.
  • Help in the creation and execution of policies and procedures aimed at identifying the medically related activity needs of residents, including the use of adaptive devices.
  • Engage in community planning that reflects the interests of the facility and addresses the services and needs of residents and their families.
  • Contribute to discharge planning, and the development and implementation of activity care plans and resident assessments.
  • Conduct interviews with residents and families in a private setting as necessary, involving them in the planning of the activity program.
  • Complete administrative tasks, such as necessary forms and reports, and submit them to the Director of Wellness Services as required.
  • Refer residents and families to appropriate social service personnel when needed.
  • Provide guidance to staff members to enhance the activity experience for residents through problem-solving and tailored program development.
  • Maintain productive relationships with healthcare professionals and other health-related organizations.
  • Assist the Infection Control Coordinator in identifying, evaluating, and classifying routine and job-related activity functions to ensure proper identification and recording of tasks involving potential exposure to blood/body fluids.
  • Support the Quality Assurance Committee in developing and implementing plans of action to address identified deficiencies, while also contributing to an ongoing quality assurance program for the activity department.
  • Participate in facility surveys conducted by authorized government agencies.
  • Ensure that all documented activity progress notes are informative and accurately reflect the services provided and the residents' responses.
  • Help maintain a reference library of necessary written materials, laws, and guidelines to comply with current standards and regulations, aiding in the maintenance of a quality activity program.
  • Meet regularly with activity personnel to discuss departmental operations, identify problem areas, and improve services.
  • Develop comprehensive assessments of each resident's activity needs and create written care plans, encouraging resident and family participation in the planning and review process.
  • Assist in the preparation of the activity department's budget for food, equipment, supplies, and labor, submitting it for review and approval.
  • Uphold the confidentiality of all resident care information.
  • Assist in scheduling movies, planning parties, and organizing games and activities for residents.
  • Encourage resident participation in activities and provide necessary materials.
  • Standardize methods for performing and administering activities.
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with other departments.
  • Ensure that departmental work areas are kept clean, sanitary, and safe, and that activity personnel adhere to established infection control procedures when necessary.
  • Conduct rounds to check equipment and ensure that activity supplies are available and in good condition.
  • Ensure safe operation of activity equipment and efficient use of supplies to minimize waste.
  • Check the supply room regularly to ensure that necessary activity supplies are available for scheduled activities.
