Position Overview

The College of Business, Engineering and Technology is in search of a part-time faculty member specializing in Economics.

In this capacity, the adjunct faculty will instruct groups of students within a designated core discipline as assigned. Key responsibilities encompass engaging students, providing constructive feedback, and motivating students to meet course and program objectives pertinent to the core discipline. This role collaborates closely with fellow faculty members, the Department Chair, and the Dean.

Core Responsibilities

The role of Adjunct Faculty includes delivering courses within a specified core discipline as assigned.

Performance Metrics

Specific performance criteria for teaching include, but are not limited to:
  • Adjunct Faculty will communicate with their assigned students through a welcome letter one week prior to the course commencement, when feasible, but always within the first week of the course.
  • Adjunct Faculty will create and share a video introduction to be included in each course.
  • Adjunct Faculty will respond to all student emails within two calendar days, which may necessitate weekend responses. Exceptions apply if the faculty member is on leave or during University-observed holidays.
  • Communication with students will occur within the University’s learning management system (LMS), designated systems, and through University-assigned email.
  • Adjunct Faculty will notify Student Services in the LMS as soon as they identify a student not actively participating in the course.
  • Adjunct Faculty will reach out to students via email and phone to encourage re-engagement as soon as they notice a lack of participation.
  • As supported by technology, Adjunct Faculty will host at least two one-hour synchronous office hour sessions weekly, with office hours posted in each course.
  • Adjunct Faculty will provide meaningful feedback to students, which includes but is not limited to:
    • being substantive and focused on content
    • sharing knowledge, resources, and engaging in dialogue with students
    • offering track changes for proper mechanics
    • including a summary statement with key observations
    • communicating in a supportive manner
Research Expectations

Adjunct Faculty are expected to meet the University’s scholarship requirements as outlined in the Faculty Handbook. They are encouraged to apply for various initiatives funded by the University to promote research and scholarship. Adjunct Faculty will:
  • Maintain a record of scholarly activities appropriate for a doctoral-granting institution
  • Contribute to the advancement of knowledge in their discipline
Adherence to University Policies

Adjunct Faculty are expected to be familiar with, acknowledge, and comply with University policies as stated in the Team Member Handbook and Faculty Handbook.

Education and Experience:

Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Economics or a related field with a minimum of 6 semester hours in Macroeconomics and Microeconomics.
  • Experience with curriculum alignment and/or academic program assessment.
  • Proficiency in using videoconferencing and web-based tools.
  • Must reside in the San Diego area.
  • Willingness to travel for onsite classes as part of hybrid courses.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Terminal degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Economics or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in practitioner research and literature reviews.

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with Student Information Systems.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Location: Onsite - San Diego area

Travel: Travel may be required

Compensation:

Annual Salary: $28.89 per hour.
