Position Overview

As an integral member of the surgical team, the Anesthesia Technician is responsible for the management and upkeep of anesthesia apparatus.

Key Responsibilities

- Demonstrates proficiency in the operation and troubleshooting of departmental equipment, ensuring timely repairs are initiated when necessary.
- Conducts daily inspections of monitoring devices and assists in the preparation of equipment, including the replacement of anesthesia circuits, adhering to established protocols to guarantee optimal patient safety and care.
- Alerts the Bio-Medical Specialist regarding any equipment requiring maintenance to uphold patient safety standards.
- Takes decisive action in response to equipment malfunctions, utilizing available resources when troubleshooting is not feasible.
- May connect ECG cables to IV poles after patients are positioned on the operating table.
- Collaborates effectively with fellow team members to enhance patient care and achieve favorable outcomes.
- Coordinates activities outside the unit and accompanies anesthesiologists and/or surgeons as necessary.
- Sets up and calibrates pressure transducers and pressure modules as required.
- Responds promptly to emergency situations in the operating room, ensuring appropriate emergency equipment is readily available.
- Communicates effectively with all surgical team members regarding the need for specialized equipment and supplies.
- Maintains quality control logs and records of equipment maintenance as directed.
- Monitors department statistics and quality assurance metrics, providing written reports to supervisors.
- Adheres to safety protocols and infection control practices, ensuring a clean and safe environment.
- Aseptically opens sterile supplies based on patient requirements and procedure specifications.
- Follows decontamination procedures for all instruments utilized during procedures.
- Cleans anesthesia equipment in accordance with infection control standards.
- Complies with safety and infection control policies, demonstrating knowledge of waste disposal and standard precautions.
- Stocks necessary supplies for anesthesia administration.
- Inspects all operating rooms between cases to confirm the availability of adequate supplies and medications.
- Notifies management of supplies that need to be ordered from external sources.
- Orders supplies from the Anesthesia Workroom as required.
- Ensures anesthesia machines and carts are organized and well-stocked.
- Cleans anesthesia machine surfaces at the end of the operating day.
- Collects and replenishes anesthesia supply carts to ensure readiness for use.
- Accesses medication delivery areas as authorized to perform necessary duties.
- Performs additional related tasks as needed.

Qualifications

- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Certification from the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists & Technicians is preferred within two years of employment.
- BCLS Certification is preferred.
- Previous experience in a hospital setting is preferred.
- Effective communication skills are essential.

Salary Information

The salary range for this position is $25.63-$28.13 per hour. This range represents a good faith estimate of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant at the time of this job advertisement and may be adjusted in the future based on various factors such as location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget, and internal equity.
