Position Overview
This role demands extensive expertise in the design, industry regulations, operation, protection, and testing/commissioning of rotating electrical machinery (motors/generators), power switchboards (11kVAC and lower AC voltages), protection and control apparatus (circuit breakers, relays, fuses, PLCs, etc.), variable frequency drives (VFD), DC bus voltage regulation, UPSs, Energy Storage systems, and Profibus/Profinet communication systems utilized on Transocean vessels. The candidate must possess the capability to conduct and evaluate power systems analyses, including but not limited to Short-Circuit, Protective Devices Coordination, Dynamic Stability, Arc-Flash, and Harmonic studies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for creating Transocean Technical Bulletins (TIB) that outline the necessary job descriptions for implementing applicable OEM issued bulletins or other actions sanctioned by Transocean Engineering management for distribution to relevant rigs within the fleet. This includes reviewing and developing rig procedures.
  • Provide engineering recommendations and generate required documentation (e.g., drawings, schematic and one-line diagrams, functional specifications, installation/troubleshooting/maintenance procedures, work-packs, power systems analysis) for addressing assigned Requests for Engineering Action (REA). This encompasses support for Upgrade and/or Newbuild projects as per assigned REAs.
  • Accountable for the timely closure of Requests for Engineering Action (REA) assigned to him/her. This includes reviewing existing equipment/systems designs, producing documentation packages for new or upgraded onboard equipment/systems, collaborating with OEMs for the development of new or upgraded equipment/systems, and liaising with OEMs to provide active support in bug-fixes or necessary corrective actions.
  • Travel to offshore vessels, shore-based OEM facilities, or shipyards to discuss/inspect equipment/system design/operation and to lead testing activities (annual trials, commissioning of new/upgraded equipment, FATs, customer acceptance).
  • Available to provide 24-hour assistance to Technical Field Support in investigating equipment/system failures to minimize downtime.
  • Willing to travel on an 'as needed' basis to offshore operating vessels and/or onshore vendor facilities or shipyards to lead testing, discuss design requirements, and assist/advise with equipment/systems maintenance, troubleshooting, and operation.
  • Participate and provide technical assistance in Incident Review and Investigation (CATs, AARs, OERs, TFS tickets).
  • Offer expert advice on equipment obsolescence, overhaul, and exchange plans to relevant departments within Transocean.
  • Actively research and engage with OEMs to gather insights on new products and technologies, advising on their applicability to Transocean's fleet.
  • Produce Transocean Technical Bulletins (TIB).
  • Support the Marketing department by reviewing proposals/requirements and providing technical recommendations.
  • This position necessitates strong interpersonal, analytical, and technical skills, as well as exceptional time-management abilities - a proven capacity to manage multiple projects while addressing urgent incident investigations in a fast-paced environment is essential.
Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
Experience:
  • 7 - 10 years in a related field; Offshore experience and expert knowledge of rotating machinery, power systems control, and protection.
Pre-Requisite/Qualifications:
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment drug screening.
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment background checks.
Additional Requirements:
  • Requires Offshore travel.
