Job Title: Adult Programs Coordinator

We are seeking a detail-oriented and adaptable Adult Programs Coordinator to join our dynamic Education team at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.

Job Summary:

The Adult Programs Coordinator will develop, implement, and oversee a diverse and robust program schedule that engages adult audiences with our permanent collections and special exhibitions. This includes art history classes, public lectures, artist talks, and other supplemental programming in both virtual and in-person modalities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement an innovative roster of adult programs aligned with VMFA's mission, strategic plan, and goals.
  • Coordinate and communicate scheduling, logistics, budgets, billing, and speaker agreements/contracts/travel and lodging for all adult programs.
  • Cultivate and nurture diverse adult audiences both on campus and across Virginia, ensuring a competitive, innovative, and high-caliber slate of programming.
  • Work collaboratively with and across Curatorial, Audience Development, Special Events, and other departments in the museum to meet programmatic goals.
  • Effectively communicate and work collaboratively to provide support for the Art and Education Division.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience in program and event planning, development, and implementation.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in event logistics, administration, and hospitality.
  • Budgetary experience and proficiency in computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, databases, email).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and diplomatically with diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated passion for adult education, life-long learning, and a deep appreciation for the visual arts.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Broad-based knowledge of art history, art education, and museum education.
  • Advanced degree in art history, arts administration, museum studies, or a comparable related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of demonstrated successful experience in managing multiple projects, public or private events, and programs in a fast-paced environment.
  • Public presentation/speaking experience.
