Job Summary:

At Advocate Health, we are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Optometric Ophthalmic Technician to join our team. As an Optometric Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and assisting our ophthalmologists in delivering top-notch medical services.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare Exam Rooms: Organize and prepare exam rooms and work areas, including cleaning, stocking, ordering supplies, checking equipment, and putting away equipment.
  • Patient Preparation: Prepare patients for exams and assist ophthalmologists during procedures.
  • Data Collection: Obtain and record ocular and medical history, medications, and chief complaints, and document accurate and timely information.
  • Diagnostic Tests: Perform basic diagnostic tests and visual screenings, such as visual field and acuity, tonometry, topography, color vision testing, and lensometry.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and calibrate equipment, sterilize instruments, and assist with scheduling patients.
  • Surgical Assistance: Assist ophthalmologists with basic or routine surgical procedures and post-operative care.

Requirements:

  • Education: High school graduate.
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 6 months.
  • Skills: Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in Microsoft office products and electronic medical records systems.

Working Conditions:

Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders frequently throughout the workday. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. without assistance. Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch.
