Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled Optometric Ophthalmic Technician to join our team at Advocate Aurora Health. As an Optometric Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our ophthalmology department.
Key Responsibilities
• Organize and prepare exam rooms and work areas, including cleaning, stocking, ordering supplies, checking equipment, and putting away equipment.
• Prepare patients for exams and assist physicians, obtaining and recording ocular and medical history, medications, and chief complaints.
• Perform basic diagnostic tests and visual screenings, such as visual field/acuity, tonometry/glaucoma pressures/applanations, topography, color vision testing, lensometry, blood pressure, pupil testing, and scribing and measurement of the cornea using a keratometer.
• Assist patients with ordering and dispensing glasses and contact lenses.
• Maintain and calibrate equipment, sterilize instruments using appropriate techniques and procedures, and assist with scheduling patients for post-operative, surgery, and specialist appointments.
• May assist ophthalmologists with basic or routine surgical procedures and post-operative care or treatment.
Requirements
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 6 months.
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• No experience required, but experience is preferred.
• Excellent communication skills (oral and written), strong attention to detail and accuracy, and proficiency in Microsoft Office products, electronic mail, and electronic medical records systems.
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders frequently throughout the workday, and to lift up to 25 lbs. without assistance.
• Will be exposed to mechanical, radiation, electrical, and chemical hazards, as well as blood and body fluids, and must wear protective clothing or equipment as necessary.
