Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Optometric Ophthalmic Technician to join our team at Advocate Aurora Health. As a key member of our ophthalmology department, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our physicians in delivering top-notch eye care services.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare exam rooms and work areas, including cleaning, stocking, and ordering supplies.
  • Assist physicians with patient exams, obtaining and recording ocular and medical history, and documenting patient information.
  • Perform basic diagnostic tests and visual screenings, such as visual field and acuity testing.
  • Assist patients with ordering and dispensing glasses and contact lenses.
  • Maintain and calibrate equipment, and sterilize instruments using proper techniques.
  • Assist with scheduling patients for post-operative and specialist appointments.
  • May assist with basic or routine surgical procedures and post-operative care or treatment.
Requirements
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 6 months of hire.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • No experience required, but preference given to those with experience in ophthalmology or a related field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders frequently throughout the workday. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds without assistance. Will be exposed to mechanical, radiation, electrical, and chemical hazards, as well as blood and body fluids, and must wear protective clothing or equipment as necessary.
