Optometric Ophthalmic Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Optometric Ophthalmic Tech to join our team at Advocate Aurora Health. As an Optometric Ophthalmic Tech, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our ophthalmologists in delivering high-quality eye care services.
Key Responsibilities- Organize and prepare exam rooms and work areas, including cleaning, stocking, ordering supplies, checking equipment, and putting away equipment.
- Prepare patients for exams and assist physicians, obtaining and recording ocular and medical history, medications, and chief complaint.
- Perform basic diagnostic tests and visual screenings, such as visual field/acuity, tonometry/glaucoma pressures/applanations, topography, color vision testing, lensometry, blood pressure, pupil testing, and scribing and measurement of the cornea using a keratometer.
- Assist patients with ordering and dispensing glasses and contact lenses.
- Maintain and calibrate equipment, sterilize instruments using appropriate technique and procedures, and assist with scheduling patients for post-operative, surgery, and specialist appointments.
- May assist the ophthalmologist with basic or routine surgical procedures and post-operative care or treatment.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months.
- High School Graduate.
- No experience required.
Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders frequently throughout the workday. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. without assistance. Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch. Will be exposed to the following hazards on a frequent basis: mechanical, radiation, electrical, and chemical as well as blood and body fluids; therefore, must wear protective clothing or equipment as necessary.
