The Pipeline Controller plays a crucial role in overseeing and regulating the transportation of natural gas and hazardous liquids through our extensive network of facilities and pipelines, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, regulatory standards, and operational capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement the daily operational strategy to guarantee that scheduled receipts and deliveries are achieved while adhering to DOT and tariff regulations, optimizing equipment usage, and ensuring safety.
  • Manage the flow of natural gas and hazardous liquids via pipelines from the Operations Control Center (OCC) using a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
  • Initiate and halt pumps and compressors, operate valves remotely, and respond to alarms by making necessary adjustments.
  • Monitor the integrity of pipelines and facilities, including tank storage levels and system pressures, to enhance efficiency, safety, and quality.
  • Engage in the planning, scheduling, and execution of facility operations, including shutdowns and start-ups, in accordance with PHMSA Control Room Management (CRM) regulations.
  • Record all pertinent operational data in the Controller Event Logger during shifts.
  • Communicate the operational plan and system status during shift changes, following CRM protocols.
  • Address abnormal and emergency situations, coordinating with field personnel to resolve issues effectively.
  • Continuously monitor flows, pressures, and material qualities, responding to SCADA alarms to maintain safe and reliable service.
  • Ensure all alarms are addressed according to established procedures, including documentation and necessary actions.
  • Adjust pipeline flows, compression, pumps, and storage to meet current and anticipated customer demands efficiently.
  • Assist in managing customer imbalances while providing exceptional service in compliance with FERC guidelines.
  • Support the validation of SCADA, communication, and electronic measurement systems through various Control Room applications.
  • Mitigate the effects of both planned and unplanned facility outages.
  • Collaborate with schedulers, operations, and external parties to foster strong inter-departmental and cross-functional relationships.
  • Maintain open communication with OCC Management to keep them updated on the operational status of pipeline and facility systems.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required.
  • Experience in a control room setting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with oil and gas hydraulics is advantageous.
  • Relevant experience in the oil and gas sector is preferred.
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while following established processes.
  • Dependable and punctual, with availability for on-call work as needed.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer applications.

Working Environment:

  • Completion of CRM training and passing the OCC preparatory assessment is required within the initial employment period.
  • Successful completion of DOT and PHMSA Operator Qualification certification is necessary to maintain employment.
  • Proximity to the Control Center is essential for timely commuting.
  • Work involves 12-hour shifts on a rotating schedule, including day and night shifts.
  • Physical requirements include reaching, standing, walking, and repetitive motions, with the ability to perform sedentary tasks in an office Control Room environment.
  • Visual acuity is necessary for monitoring multiple SCADA screens effectively.
