Job Overview

CenterPoint Energy is seeking an Associate Gas Controller to be part of our Gas Control Team.

Your responsibilities will include: Managing system flow from supply to delivery points, troubleshooting system issues, and adjusting flows to fulfill contractual commitments while ensuring system integrity. You will communicate operational matters such as gas supply, outage updates, and facility conditions to both internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, you will serve as the primary emergency contact for large industrial and commercial clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide daily gas facility updates to field operations and report damages to the system, including gas flow, supply, pipe specifications, locations, status, and potential outage information.
  • Facilitate prompt repairs to the gas system by advising on isolating damaged facilities, rerouting gas supplies, and implementing necessary Gas Control Plans.
  • Deliver Gas Loss Calculations to the Damage Prevention team.
  • Coordinate with field operations regarding modifications to the gas distribution system and maintain accurate records to reflect a 'real-time' status of the system.
  • Communicate system changes to relevant workgroups.
  • Support the System Operations team with SCADA programming adjustments, daily operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting of field SCADA equipment.
  • Monitor the SCADA system and respond to alarms by directing equipment adjustments either remotely or through field personnel.
  • Oversee gas nominations to ensure compliance with contract obligations by calculating usage and rectifying imbalances on a daily basis.
  • Provide the Dispatch and Customer Service departments with gas facility and outage information as needed.
  • Collaborate with various departments (Engineering, System Operations, District personnel, Dispatch, Customer Service, etc.) during peak gas usage periods to guarantee reliable gas delivery.
  • Act as the primary contact for high-volume customers and pipeline suppliers during emergencies.
  • Furnish clients with requested information and reports.
  • Monitor weather conditions and forecasts to assess their impact on the pipeline network and adjust operations to meet customer demand.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of two (2) years of technical field experience in natural gas operations is required.
Educational Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
  • An associate degree from an accredited institution.
  • Familiarity with SAP, SCADA, and GIS systems is advantageous.
