Medical Laboratory Specialist

As a Medical Laboratory Specialist - Blood Bank, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results. Your primary area of accountability will be in the discipline of transfusion service, with secondary areas including microbiology, chemistry, coagulation, hematology, immunology, and urinalysis.
Key Responsibilities- Perform moderately complex to highly complex and specialized clinical laboratory tests/analyses using manual or automated techniques to obtain data for use in the diagnosis, management, and treatment of disease/injury.
- Pretest and process samples, perform, analyze, interpret, and confirm tests, document and deliver timely test results, and operate and maintain standard laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
- Ensure the accuracy of test results and related analyses based on adherence to established standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements for test analysis, quality control, quality assurance, safety, blood-borne pathogen/infection control, specimen handling/processing, and documenting/reporting patient results.
- Exercise sound judgment to monitor, control, and assess tests conditions, specimen quality, chemical/biologic reactions, and instrument function.
- Associate degree and completion of an approved Medical Laboratory Technician program with clinical internship.
- 5 years of routine and specialized experience in the field of Microbiology or Transfusion within the last 10 years.
- National Registration as an MLT(ASCP), MLT(ASCP)CM, or equivalent (e.g. AMT), or registry-eligible at date of hire.
