We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Specialist to join our team at Corewell Health. As a key member of our clinical laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine and specialized tests and procedures to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
Key Responsibilities- Perform routine and complex chemical, hematologic, microscopic, morphologic immunologic, and/or microbiologic procedures using laboratory instruments or manual techniques.
- Release quality patient test results and evaluate instrument performance and quality control results to determine the accuracy and reliability of all analytical data.
- Correlate results with other laboratory data and/or disease states, taking action or developing solutions based on data at hand in collaboration with section supervisor/director.
- Standardize, calibrate, perform preventative maintenance, and perform in-depth troubleshooting on laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Participate in the instruction of clinical laboratory science to students, residents, and new employees, and attend, participate in, and present department continuing education and in-service training programs.
- Participate in various quality assurance and regulatory agency activities in the department, including performance of proficiency testing, developing and documenting quality assurance monitors, and participation in mandatory personal competency assessment.
- Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university with 16 semester hours in biology and 16 semester hours in chemistry.
- Completion of a clinical laboratory approved or accredited program by NAACLS or at least three months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing.
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) by a recognized certifying agency.
This position works in a clinical laboratory and may be exposed to hazardous reagents and infectious materials. The potential risk of exposure to hazardous medications or waste materials is present.
