About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Strategic Portfolio Manager to join our team at Ball Horticultural. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in driving the development and commercialization of our vegetable product portfolio.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Portfolio Strategy: Establish and execute a comprehensive portfolio strategy that aligns with our corporate goals and objectives.
  • Lead Cross-Functional Teams: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, breeding, and operations, to prioritize and allocate resources for new product development and commercialization.
  • Conduct Market Analysis: Conduct market analysis and provide recommendations on resource allocation for future products, trialing, and commercialization.
  • Establish Strategic Goals: Establish strategic goals for the vegetable portfolio to achieve the highest return on investment.
  • Coordinate with Stakeholders: Effectively coordinate with key stakeholders, including sales directors, breeding directors, and operations directors, to prioritize, gain agreement, establish timelines, and allocate resources.
  • Manage Product Development: Conduct ongoing overview of all vegetable projects, review project status, and expected launch dates with product development managers.
  • Develop Go-to-Market Strategy: Propose go-to-market strategies with global distribution partners on new and existing products.
  • Make Data-Driven Decisions: Make data-supported recommendations on projects to continue with full resources, continue with reduced resources, delay, or terminate.
  • Explore New Product Development Models: Explore new product development portfolio models and tools to enhance decision-making and agility.
  • Engage with Customers: Increase engagement with portfolio customers/users to gain a deeper understanding of market needs and opportunities.
  • Establish Gates and Criteria: Establish relevant gates and criteria for introduction into the target portfolio for product development managers.
  • Provide Input on Breeding Goals: Provide input to breeders and portfolio management on breeding goals for crops managed.
  • Manage Trials: Manage necessary aspects of trialing to ensure timely decisions are made on product introductions/product segments.
  • Provide Input on Pricing and Forecasting: Provide input for new product pricing and forecasting to portfolio and sales management.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 7 Years' Experience: Minimum of 7 years' relevant experience in vegetable portfolio in a product management, sales, growing, or trialing role.
  • Bachelor's Degree: Bachelor's degree in horticulture or related field required.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Strong communication, negotiation, and coordinating skills, along with the ability to work well with a wide variety of people.
  • Language Skills: English speaking required; Spanish, Dutch, or Chinese speaking beneficial.
  • Computer Skills: Strong computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office; SAP knowledge beneficial.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift/carry 25 lbs 10% of the day, ability to push/pull 50 lbs 10% of the day, ability to sit/stand 80% of the day, ability to kneel/bend 10% of the day, ability to reach 10% of the day, ability to climb/balance 10% of the day, ability to use hands/fingers 80% of the day, ability to work in hot and humid environmental conditions for 50% of the day.
