ROLE DESCRIPTION


The English Language Support Educator plays a vital role in the instructional process by serving as the leader for English Learner education. This position involves implementing the school-wide Language Instruction Educational Plan (LIEP) for all identified English Learners at GLOW. Responsibilities include developing lesson plans and delivering both group and individualized instruction within established curriculum frameworks; collaborating with fellow educators and administrative staff to address instructional needs; and leading the design, revision, and implementation of the English Learner curriculum to meet Federal, State, and District goals. This role demands a focus on rigorous and innovative instruction, along with high-quality training to enhance existing academic content and language instruction for teachers.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • CERTIFICATION: Preferred NC Teacher Certification
  • EXPERIENCE: Proven ability to teach and support English Learners
  • ENVIRONMENT: Highly organized professional with a track record of creating an inclusive learning atmosphere while maintaining high expectations for student engagement and academic progress.
  • WHOLE GIRL: Understanding of educational challenges related to the academic and social development of a diverse student population, particularly minority and socioeconomically disadvantaged adolescent girls.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish and maintain a school-based LIEP instructional schedule for English Learners.
  • Collaborate with administration and teachers to align learner objectives with the established curriculum and diverse learning needs of English Learners.
  • Participate in the school MTSS team to ensure effective instructional decisions are made to support English Learners.
  • Recommend instructional strategies and accommodations tailored to student needs.
  • Facilitate communication between classroom teachers, parents, and support staff as necessary.
  • Educate staff on EL policies and procedures through training sessions.
  • Support communication between English Learner students and their families.
  • Communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.
  • Possess extensive knowledge of curriculum content and effective teaching strategies for English Learners.
  • Research innovative programs and evidence-based strategies for English Learners.
  • Utilize data to enhance educational programming.
  • Promote strong relationships between the school and families of English Learner students.
  • Create a culture of excellence by setting high standards and expectations for all students.

SALARY

Compensation is based on the NC Educators step pay scale, with additional benefits for:

  • 8% local supplement
  • 10% for a related master's degree
  • 12% for current National Board Certification

SUPPORT

  • All new staff will participate in a formal orientation to familiarize themselves with the school and its expectations.
  • New staff with a continuing license will be paired with a "GLOW Guide" to assist in their transition.
  • New staff with an initial license will be assigned a Mentor as part of our Beginning Teacher Program.
