Job Description

Overview

This role is responsible for the prompt installation, preventive upkeep, troubleshooting, and repair of intricate machinery and facilities essential for the smooth operation of production lines within a manufacturing environment. The technician will receive assignments from a supervisor or manager and is expected to execute most tasks, including complex ones, with minimal oversight. All tasks must adhere to strict safety and sanitation protocols. Quality standards are continuously monitored, requiring equipment fabrication and machine operations to meet specific tolerances and operational criteria to ensure timely delivery of products while minimizing costs and meeting customer specifications. Employee involvement in the implementation of enhanced processes is encouraged across all production activities.

Work Schedules: Monday - Friday, with shifts available from 7:00 am - 3:00 pm, 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm, or 11:00 pm - 7:00 am.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair malfunctioning equipment to reduce downtime.
  • Conduct corrective and preventive maintenance during scheduled downtime.
  • Fabricate or assemble components as per blueprints, sketches, or schematics for complex systems.
  • Overhaul or modify sophisticated machinery, including gearboxes and motors.
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of spare parts to ensure timely repairs and report usage for restocking.
  • Stay updated on the proper use of all repair tools through ongoing training.
  • May be tasked with specialized functions such as auto/forklift mechanics, electrical work, instrumentation, refrigeration, or machining. While specialized, the technician is expected to assist in other areas as needed.
  • Comprehend and apply safety regulations and procedures in all tasks.
  • Uphold the highest standards of ethics and integrity.
  • Ensure accurate data management through the use of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to enhance decision-making.
  • Proactively manage safety by complying with all relevant regulations and internal policies, conducting safety observations, and addressing unsafe conditions promptly.
  • All personnel are responsible for adhering to SQF 2000 principles.
  • Report any food safety, quality, or security concerns to management immediately.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Intermediate proficiency in welding, plumbing, electrical repairs, instrumentation, and pneumatic/hydraulic systems is required. Candidates are encouraged to have their own tools.
  • Advanced skills as an industrial mechanic or electrician are necessary, along with prior manufacturing maintenance experience.
  • Ability to read and understand both simple and complex instructions, correspondence, and memos. Capable of writing various documents, including instructions and reports, and effectively presenting information in both small and large group settings.
  • Must apply experience and common sense creatively across various situations, processes, and personnel. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, plan work, order parts, and coordinate downtime for work orders. Resolve issues, including conflicts, equipment failures, and operational variations.
  • Proficient in using Maintenance Management Software.
  • Physical requirements include frequent talking, hearing, standing, walking, sitting, and using hands. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally. Specific vision abilities include close and color vision.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, wet conditions, high places, fumes, and chemicals is common. The noise level in the work environment is typically loud.
