We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced professional to serve as the Chief of Organizational Leadership and Development for the Alabama Department of Education. This key leadership position will play a critical role in developing, overseeing, and managing day-to-day operations of educational programs and services for the department.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in developing, planning, and implementing all functions related to curriculum, instruction, and staff development.
- Oversee the development and implementation of elementary and secondary instructional programs, technology, and communications.
- Provide leadership in policy development related to instructional programs.
- Attend Board meetings and prepare reports for the Board as requested.
- Assist in determining types of programs needed by the department and make recommendations.
- Serve as the leader of the district-wide mentoring program.
- Lead the new leader academy by recruiting employees to participate in the program.
- Coordinate recruitment and retention efforts with the Office of Human Resources.
- Focus on teacher retention and coordinate activities that support new teachers and all teachers.
- Report on the status of department programs and services as requested.
- Prepare state required mentoring reports.
- Aid in solving problems of teachers, other personnel, parents, and community members.
- Organize and conduct training opportunities for department staff.
- Coordinate and assist with school-based mentor and mentee training as needed.
- Prepare and coordinate evaluations of assigned programs.
- Prepare and coordinate evaluations of assigned grants and related programs.
- Gather and report information about the system and school programs.
- Facilitate active, effective communication within and without the department.
- Identify and support staff development initiatives to enhance student achievement.
- Interact with parents, outside agencies, business, and community to enhance the understanding of department initiatives and priorities.
- Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events.
- Work closely with department and school staffs to support school improvement initiatives and processes.
- Keep informed and disseminate information about current research, trends, and best practices in areas of responsibility.
- Attend training sessions, conferences, and workshops as assigned or appropriate.
- Represent the department in a positive and professional manner.
- Supervise assigned personnel, conduct annual performance appraisals, and make recommendations for employment actions.
- Prepare or oversee the preparation of all required reports and maintain all appropriate records.
- Develop annual goals and objectives consistent with and in support of department goals and priorities.
- Assist in implementing the department's goals and strategic commitment.
- Set high standards and expectations and promote professional growth for self and others.
- Utilize appropriate strategies and problem-solving tools to make decisions regarding planning, utilization of funds, delivering services, and evaluation of services provided.
- Demonstrate initiative in identifying potential problems or opportunities for improvement and take appropriate action.
- Use appropriate styles and methods to motivate, gain commitment, and facilitate task accomplishment.
- Master's degree from an accredited educational institution.
- Certification in Educational Leadership or Administration and Supervision.
- Successful classroom teaching experience and staff level experience.
- Administrative and supervisory experience.
This position requires light work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
Terms of EmploymentSalary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the department's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the department.
EvaluationPerformance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the department's policy on evaluation of personnel.
