Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY This role involves performing essential manual tasks and services for the City of Sunrise. The individual in this position is responsible for routine labor in the construction, upkeep, and repair of various municipal structures, roadways, drainage systems, water pipelines, and other installations. Duties also include landscaping activities such as trimming trees, spraying vegetation, and assisting with concrete projects. Additional responsibilities encompass the installation of signage, erecting barriers, digging trenches, leveling surfaces, and loading/unloading materials.

Key Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES

Execute unskilled and semi-skilled tasks associated with the maintenance and repair of stormwater and wastewater systems. Operate and maintain various maintenance machinery and power tools, including small tractors, rotary brush trimmers, mowers, and other equipment, ensuring they are in optimal working condition. Maintain drainage swales and open ditches to ensure efficient system functionality. Address public inquiries courteously, providing relevant information or directing them to a supervisor as necessary. Manage and operate an assigned vehicle, ensuring proper maintenance and reporting any repair needs. Oversee the general upkeep of areas surrounding stormwater facilities. Load and transport equipment, materials, and supplies as needed for work assignments. Investigate public complaints and communicate the action plan to relevant officials and the community. Keep a log of activities related to wastewater and stormwater operations. Participate in regular meetings to receive work assignments. Engage in emergency preparedness efforts for natural or man-made disasters, serving as essential personnel during relief and cleanup operations. Be available on-call for emergency situations related to wastewater and stormwater management. Adhere to safety protocols while performing daily tasks, including the use of personal protective equipment as required. Foster a culture of safety within the workplace. Perform additional related duties as required.

Qualifications

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Completion of an accredited high school program or possession of a GED. PROOF OF HIGHEST LEVEL OF COMPLETED EDUCATION MUST BE SUBMITTED AS AN ATTACHMENT WITH APPLICATION. (Applications without attached proof of education will not be processed for consideration.) EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
A minimum of one (1) year of full-time experience in building maintenance or public works maintenance and repair activities.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record; CDL preferred. Must obtain a valid driver's license prior to employment. Ability to acquire an Intermediate Maintenance of Traffic certificate within six months of hire.

Skills and Competencies

Familiarity with minor repair, maintenance, and construction techniques. Understanding of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Knowledge of cleaning agents, methods, and equipment. Basic electrical work knowledge. Proficiency in using and maintaining hand tools and related equipment. Ability to utilize department software effectively. Skills in landscaping and caring for plants and trees. Capacity to comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, colleagues, and the public. Strong communication skills for interacting with the public in a friendly and helpful manner. Capability to perform physically demanding labor for extended periods, often outdoors in varying weather conditions.
