Position: Underwriter - Financial Lines (Wholesale)

Role Summary: Twin Maples Specialty, the newly established wholesale division of Starr, is in search of a dedicated and skilled Underwriter to enhance our Financial Lines team, which is focused on wholesale brokerage. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in underwriting financial lines products, including but not limited to Directors and Officers (D&O) liability, Employment Practices Liability (EPLI), Fiduciary Liability, and Fidelity (Crime).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess and underwrite both new and renewal submissions for financial lines products, ensuring compliance with underwriting standards and risk appetite.
  • Examine financial documents, company performance metrics, and industry developments to evaluate risk and establish suitable pricing and coverage conditions.
  • Engage with wholesale brokers and other relevant parties to negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing for both new and existing accounts.
  • Build and sustain robust relationships with wholesale brokers and clients to promote business growth and retention.
  • Monitor portfolio performance and profitability, implementing necessary corrective measures as required.
  • Remain informed about industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks impacting financial lines insurance.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or a related discipline. An advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CPCU, RPLU) is advantageous.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of underwriting experience in financial lines insurance, ideally within a wholesale or specialty insurance context.
  • Comprehensive understanding of financial lines insurance products, underwriting principles, and industry standards.
  • Strong analytical capabilities with the aptitude to evaluate complex risks and make informed underwriting decisions.
  • Established connections with wholesale brokers across the United States are preferred.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with the ability to effectively engage with brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated, driven, and capable of functioning in an ambiguous environment. Proven history of achieving or surpassing underwriting objectives.
  • Familiarity with insurance industry regulations, compliance standards, and best practices.
  • Proficiency in underwriting software and the Microsoft Office suite.
