Medical Unit Coordinator

As a Medical Unit Coordinator at Steward Health Care, you will have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail and excellent communication skills are essential. You will be responsible for managing information, coordinating unit activities, and providing exceptional customer service to patients, families, and healthcare professionals. Your duties will include serving as the main point of contact between the unit and transport, ancillaries, and physicians, and maintaining accurate data. You will also be responsible for monitoring patients' arm bands, reporting printer and computer problems to the help desk, and maintaining stock of lab/x-ray requisitions for downtime.
Salary: $50,000 - $70,000 per year (based on experience).
About the Role:
This position requires a strong understanding of medical terminology, computer knowledge, and excellent customer service skills. You will be working in a team environment where collaboration and effective communication are key. Your duties will include answering calls, identifying department and name, and notifying the charge nurse of patients' concerns. You will also be responsible for maintaining accurate data, monitoring patients' arm bands, and reporting printer and computer problems to the help desk.
Responsibilities:
- Main point of contact between unit and transport, ancillaries, and physicians.
- Answers all calls by identifying department and name.
- Aware of new orders and communicates to the appropriate nurse.
- Maintains and updates physician pager numbers.
- Monitors patients' arm bands and contacts registration/admissions for replacement.
- Maintains stock of lab/x-ray requisitions for downtime.
- Reports printer and computer problems to help desk.
- Provides and tracks data for the department.
- Orders and maintains accurate par levels for inventories.
- Assists in maintaining a safe environment and intervenes appropriately.
- Utilizes proper procedures and addresses patients' concerns.
- Notifies BioMed department of malfunctioning equipment and arranges repair requests.
- Copies charts and other materials as requested.
- Maintains and tracks compliance with BLS, TB, Fit testing, and all minimal job requirements.
- Participates on committees as requested.
- Relays accurate messages to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
- Participates in quality improvement projects as requested by Director.
- Responds to staffing needs by cross-training and floating to other units.
Requirements:
- High School Education.
- Certified Nursing Assistant.
- Demonstrates computer knowledge.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Customer service skills.
- Ability to assist lifting and carrying up to 20lbs.
- Ability to sit for an extended period of time.
