Job Summary

The Educational Specialist II - Professional Learning is a key member of the Office of Special Education, responsible for leading and implementing professional development initiatives to support educators and leaders throughout the City Schools system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for all professional learning activities originating in the Office of Special Education.
  • Partners with academic offices to ensure that professional development opportunities address the needs of diverse learners, particularly students with IEPs.
  • Designs and supports high-quality professional development that promotes effective differentiation and instructional practices.
  • Develops guidance on current best practices in professional learning and instructional design.
  • Ensures that all professional learning offerings align with City Schools' timelines and expectations.
  • Plans, organizes, and implements professional development programming for OSE staff.
  • Develops and monitors the professional learning session vetting process.
  • Stays up-to-date on current research in the field to inform professional learning initiatives.
  • Collaborates with staff across the district to support professional learning and development.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in education, instructional design, or related field.
  • Three years teaching experience, preferably with students with special needs.
  • Valid Maryland State Department of Education Advanced Professional Certificate.
  • Knowledge of federal and state legislation governing the education of students with disabilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective time management, organization, and leadership skills.
