About the Job

We are seeking an Intern to join our team in the Thermal and Kinetic Spray Technologies Department at Sandia National Laboratories. As an Intern, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting projects and contribute to the development of new technologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply fundamental materials characterization principles and metallurgical process development to spray technologies.
  • Interact with members of the 1834 team to develop process parameters.
  • Develop Design of Experiments for process parameters.
  • Design hardware for experimental use.
  • Prepare metallographic samples.
Requirements
  • Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program.
  • Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0.
  • Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer.
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.

The Thermal and Kinetic Spray Technologies Department's mission is to provide Subject Matter expertise to the Laboratories in Thermal Spray technologies. We conduct research on the structure, processing, and properties of materials to improve the performance of coatings produced by 1) Plasma Spraying (Air and Controlled Atmosphere), 2) Twin Wire Arc Spraying, 3) Flame Spraying, 4) Cold Spraying and 5) Aerosol Deposition.
